Percutaneous tracheostomy: a guide wire complication.

We report an unusual complication of percutaneous dilatational tracheostomy, in which the guide wire became lodged in the bronchial tree. The assistance of an expert bronchoscopist resulted in successful removal of a fractured J wire with no adverse sequelae for the patient. A subsequent incident has given insight into the mechanism of damage to the guide wire.

Percutaneous cerclage wiring, does it disrupt femoral blood supply? A cadaveric injection study.

BACKGROUND A percutaneous cerclage wiring technique has been developed to reduce iatrogenic soft tissue and vascular disruption associated with classic cerclage fixation. OBJECTIVES The purpose of this study was to evaluate the extent of femoral vascular disruption resulting iatrogenically from the application of two percutaneous cerclage wire loops. METHODS Pairs of cerlage wire loops were...

Percutaneous K-wire fixation for femoral shaft fractures in children.

From November 2001 to January 2004, sixty-five children with femoral shaft fractures were treated by closed reduction and percutaneous K-wire fixation. The aims of the treatment were early mobilisation, easy nursing care and rapid rehabilitation. Kirschner wires were introduced under image-intensifier control from the distal or proximal metaphyseal region of the femur, avoiding injury to the ph...

Femoral pseudoaneurysm with a communicating arteriovenous fistula: a complication after percutaneous coronary intervention.

A 61-year-old man with acute myocardial infarction developed a painful hematoma in his groin after percutaneous coronary intervention. Ultrasonography, including color Doppler, detected a pulsatile, hypoechogenic, single compartment lesion (2.3 3.0 2.9 cm) consistent with a partially thrombosed pseudoaneurysm originating from the distal part of the common femoral artery (Figure, A). Sampling fr...
